Eden Young Writers

For the last couple of years I have been working with a group of schools in the Eden Valley, an area of rural Cumbria near Penrith and Appleby. Through video conferencing, we have shared the experiences of the different schools, working on their creative writing. The schools involved are Milburn, Temple Sowerby, Long Marton, Bolton, Asby and Crosby Ravensworth. Here is some of their work:

Dead of Night

 by Charlotte

Walking through the woods was a really bad idea. I should have gone the normal route especially at night. I was walking back from my badminton class at 4:57pm in December. The fat, harsh rain drops painfully crept down the dead rotten trees. And the winded howled through the bushes. My body was violently shivering in my summer sports jacket. By nipping across the woods it could save me five minutes. The church bell rung it was 6 o’clock.

I shoved my way through the old lych-gate. The hinges moaned as I shut it. The old tawny owl screeched as it leaped from one tree to the other. I was looking forward to my hot drink and biscuit. It was when I stepped off the gravel path that I heard bashing it was as if something or someone was bashing on a coffin door. But how could that be? I froze to a halt in front of a grave stone.

The strange noise grew stronger and stronger as my heart beat faster. Wood was snapping roots were braking something was making its way to the surface making its way to me. Then there was that hideous screaming sound again. Then, even as I watched, a finger appeared. Bones and decaying skin wriggled there were over the soil. Then there was a broken black oily figure nail. I swallowed and stood back. Next a whole hand appeared its knuckles were ripping out of the skin. The whole hand wriggled along the soil and dark blood clung to his wrist like a magnet. Suddenly, a huge figure erupted from the nearest grave. Ripped flesh revealed the bones on his face; his teeth were shattered and rotten. I stood there transfixed, unable to move. Maggots’ clung on to his tong. The creature looked and stared he did not do anything.

At last I was able to act. Racing across the church yard skidding , sliding, my shoes struggling for grip on the damp ground. I headed for the church. I skidded to a halt and began to bang on the old oak church doors. It was several moments before they swung open. I could see the ghastly zombie creeping up behind me. I screamed with terror and a figure grabbed my shoulder and pulled me in. I could here the zombie scratching at the door.

“Not again,” she gasped

“What do you mean again?” I cried

Then she began to explain. It’s ever since they built the new grave yard and left the old one to rot away. It’s made the family’s feel upset and also the creatures inside the coffins. It has not been a very good idea.

I was just about to open my mouth but there was no time to say another word. With a massive explosion and the sound of braking glass a hand appeared from the roof blood dripped and stuck to the floor. I began to shake in fear.

                             Dead of Night

That short cut was my worse idea yet since 2 years ago. It was 4:30pm and I took a short cut through Saint Harry’s church, it was December. It was a very stormy night, the rain was fat and it was hitting down on the freezing gravestones. I put on my water proof coat but still felt very I cold so put on some more warm things like a scarf, gloves and hat. By walking through the abounded church I could save 5 and half minuets. I slid up my mobile it rang six o’clock.

I shoved with all my might though the old and rusty lynch- gates. The hinges groaned as I got through. I could hear the dead leaves crunch under my feet as I walked on. I was looking forward to have my tea.

Suddenly I heard a thud and then again and getting louder every time. I sensed I was being watched. I clambered in to one of the old mossy lichen covered gravestones. I was looking constantly around so nothing could surprise attack me.

Just then it got more powerful and a lot scarier and the earth started crumble like a whirl pool. I nearly fainted I was so scared. I wondered what could be happening but I did not want to stay to find out. I could not move, it was like I was stapled to the gravestone. Then, even as I watched, a finger popped out up through the damp wet earth, it had no flesh on it, just bone and muscles was hanging off. I fell off the grave backwards and suddenly three more fingers appeared out of no where and followed by a thumb, well what was left of it. The knuckles were pointing in all different directions.

The earth started to tremble, just then a thing climbed out of the ground and it had one eye missing and the other on one last cord. You could see it’s brain that had half rotted inside the skull. Then as I as was going to run for it the zombie clicked his neck and started to groan ‘I could make out dinner’ and he licked the reminder of his lips.

I dived for   the church door and pounded as hard as I could, then about 10 seconds latter a lady Vicar pulled me in and slammed the door shut just in the nick of time because the undead had swiped at her.

   ‘Not again!’ she cried

‘W w what do you mean again!’

‘That zombie’ she explained, these attacks have being going for nearly two months now. He has eat about 7 people and attacked about 35, you are not the only one but no time to chat now. Half broken finger nails were sawing through the wooden door. She rang the local army. Suddenly there were a lot more of the zombies, there a battle for several hours. I said to the Vicar ‘how is this happening’ and she said ‘you will know the local factory, well the chemical from it has made the bodies turn into zombie every Thursday night’. The zombies will put their hand on your face and suck the life out of you and bury you. The only way to kill them is bullets. The head of the zombies is the one that attacked you, if he is killed, the rest will instantly die too.

Dead of Night

Tacking a shortcut turned out to be worse than I thought it would be. I have taken it lots of times before it was about 6.30 I was walking back from tennis and I was tip toeing through St. Laurence’s church. It was a late cold December Afternoon. And the wind was coming over the valley and the rain was coming horizontally. I quickly buttoned my coat up to my throat then I slowly reached my hand into my big brown pocked and slipped on my pink fluffy gloves. By nipping through the big old church yard I could save my self 4 minutes. I glanced at my watch it showed 6.35

 Dead of Night

by Olly

I sneaked through the old lych-gate. The hinge creaked and moaned the old gravel crunched under my feet. In the distance I could hear a owl calling. All I could think about was sitting in front of the fire. I could hear faint scratching and distant thuds I thought to my self that something was very fishy around hear. I froze and skidded to a halt I just stared at the wet damp soil. The sound grew louder then I started to hear the ground bubbling the noises got more intense and increased in volume and more powerful. I could hear faint scrapping and braking. Then even as I watch , a finger appeared trough the floor. I could see bones and decaying flesh there were blackened soily finger nails with muscle hanging out and I could see that the knuckles were shattered, suddenly I took a step back “I don’t like this thing” I screamed.

Then I saw a maggot crawling out of his skin I noticed that his tongue was black and purple  also he had a mangled jaw I just stood like  I was glued to the floor I couldn’t move he was licking all of the maggots off his muddy wrist then he looked up at me and stared like he was  hungry then something moved inside me at last I was able too act. I ran my fastest to wards the church doors, slipping and sliding I had to run as if my life depended on it finally I had reached the door but it was stuck I could see the zombie approaching me from behind it was several moments before the door swung open their was the vicar she grabbed me and struggled to pull me into the church then she slammed the door to a halt then put on  the latch so that it was locked for good.

“Not this again” she shouted

“What do you me not this again” I asked

Then she explained you know when they built bio solutions you know its that greenish glowing stuff that they pour into the water it harms the world and the life inside it But there was no time too say anything else I could see the wooden door fracturing and shattering , The glass smashed and a big black hand came through the window everybody looked with fright.

Alien by Isaac

Something was approaching . I heard a low tone growl I jumped around and my heart started beating faster and faster I saw a figure darting around the rocks. I pulled out my plasma auto rifle in a flash. I put my finger on the trigger and hundreds of bullets screamed across the night sky. A loud hiss echoed across the land. I could hear the burning but it wasn’t dead.   The creature snapped his jaws on Joe’s head. Burning acid ran down his body and ate away at his flesh. Our expedition to Yavin 4 was turning into a catastrophe. A bloodthirsty battle followed.

We fired and fired but our bullets proved useless against the monster. I said to my team mate, “I’m going to get something with a bit more kick”. I ran into an armoury and the and the first thing I saw was a big shotgun. I heard a scream and I ran outside!. I saw the alien jumping towards jack. I pulled the trigger and two plasma balls screamed out the barrel they hit the alien. It dissolved into murky dust. They staggered back to the ship. I went into the ship, relieved but I was still terrified because there was an eerie silence on board the ship. I rushed to the control room and typed the co-ordinates for the mother ship. I heard a loud crack from the opposite side of the shuttle.  Jack and I went to investigate. We walked into the engine room and spied a purple veined egg. The egg split and the alien jumped and tried to attack me and missed. The alien was about one meter in length, it had sharp teeth. We followed it into the engine cooling system then suddenly the alien jumped out and fired

Something was approaching. a bush was moving with a tall out of it. I quickly trend my head and stead were the noise was. I saw a shadow was moving like lighting and it was as tall as an fully grown tree. I grabed my surd and I was going to chuck it. I herd a noise agent so I large it, it went strait thru his chest the noise was like a bomb blown up. it smelled like flesh blood burning and the heat was on my face. But it was not dead but it was quit then some light came on my friend bill and he was never seen agene. It was Simpson’s 3 the world was called.

A fierce battle followed I got my gun out it was a shot gun I got ready I fired at it arm but my gun did not work. I was exhausted when I was walking back ton the shuttle.

I ran as fast as I could I got my invisible key and opened the door. I got in the shuttle and I felt safe but I wasn’t that happy because my friend had died.  When I got in and shut the door it was quiet all around the shuttle. I herd a noise at the far corner it was an egg but was no ordinary egg we went to investigate the egg. It was a gold and shiny the war was not over.

I went to the egg, there was claws coming out of it and a roaring noise. It cracked and then ran down the pipe. I went down the pipes to find it. I went down a different to find it. But I couldn’t find it anywhere. I went down the pipe leading to the engine but it was not there. I hid behind a corner and shot it, in its head. Blood was pouring out. I shut it out of the shuttle and I went back to the controls. I switched the panels on and I went back home and the war was over.

Alien

                                 By Luke

Something was approaching. There was a twig snap and low

Sound of footsteps. My hart was pounding and I looked all

Around and there was nothing there but a shadow with spiky

And sharp sticking out teeth 20feet high.  I grabbed my shotgun

And looked all around the noises were getting louder.  I opened fire, all I saw was blue bulletsflying through the air and I heard the alien screeching in pain. The alien got hold of the nurses head and crunched it, like a dog chewing on a bone. Our trip to Digger five was turning  into a disaster.

The alien was running towards us. Bob and I were shootingfrom our space bikes. Nbob’s engine stopped. I looked back, the alien was getting closer. We got Bob’s bike working, the alien was just lungingat me bike. I took one shot down his throat and he was killed instantly. Bob and I rode over the aliens back to the ship. We were exhausted. When we got back on our ship we went to our rooms and fell to sleep.

We were exhausted and relieved that the alien was dead but we also had lost an important member of the crew. Before we feel to sleep we set the controls for the main craft. We told the leader all about what had happened. Then we fell to sleep again.

Something was approaching. There was a twig break of a tree. There was a scream of a child. I glared around at everything around me. I saw a shadow; it moved as fast as lightning and was 3 ½ metres tall. It was a dark and gloomy shadow. I snatched up my lazar riffle and got ready to fire. Green lazars flew through the night. They shuddered the night sky. There was a smell of charred skin in the air. But it wasn’t dead. Harry had the monsters jaws around the little head of Harry; it crunched and chewed him up. Our expedition to Pacharichun was turning in to a catastrophe.

A heroic battle awaited. We fired for one whole minute. Then I hit it in the head, green gue leaked out of its head. Its two hearts stopped beating rapidly.

Life less, heart broken, we staggered back to the shuttle. We pulled down the door, it shuddered I clambered in and shut the door. I set the controlles and we where off. We where exhausted and upset. But before long there was a click, clank, clang. we searched the whole mother ship for the mysterious noise. We went in to the engine room and right in front of us stood a golden, shiny, smooth egg with ants all over it. it rattled and shook the whole little room. It was still clinking and clanking but we didn’t know why? I was scared and shaking. There was a sudden, “ Squark,” from inside the egg. What was going to happen next? I started off towards the control room, to tell the guard, it was quiet enough to hear a mouse scurry across the floor. Suddenly just as I was about to step out of the room there was a sudden shaking in the floor.

Suddenly there was a crack, I turned around and I got the shock of my life. Standing right in front of me was an egg in two halves and out of the top there was a gigantic, life size baby alien.!! It was green, with enormous teeth, it was making a low grumbling sound and had blue gunge coming out of it’s ears and mouth and dripping down its body. This was not a creature from earth!! it jumped out and shook all of the gunge over the engine room. Suddenly it jumped through the air conditioning pipe. I followed it, it squeezed through the tiniest of the gaps. The alien exited onto the ship’s deck where there was the crew assembled to watch his massacre. I jumped out of the pipe and shot him in the head, six times.

Something was approaching. There was a fowl smell in the distance. I turned and started to shake. there was a shadowy figure in the distance it was over 3 meters tall I was about to fire my ray gun when it knocked it out of my hand so I got a sword and thrusted it through its chest. the sound was like a nuclear bomb. There was a smell of rotten apples that told me that it was dead. but it wasn`t dead. Then there was a flash of light then carl just turned to dust. Our expedition to Futurama 14 turned into a disaster.

A fierce battle erupted. The didn`t work so I got my ray again and fired at it`s leg but it only injured him. So I shot him in his head and it axpioded anb green goo came came pouring out. We won the battle but at aserious cost, exhausted, demoralized, wa made our way back to the shuttle.

I pressed the button in my hand and the shiny gold door shaped like a octigon opened like it was split in half. I was happy that we won the battle but sad that Carl died. It was quiet as though everybody had left me alone. I was going to tell the commander and the rest of crew the good and bad news when I heard it. I heard a crack. We were not alone.

The dark green egg  opened like snot running down you’re face. What came out was an evil monster with six arms and a triangular shaped head and menacing claws. It was a metre tall but still menacing and evil. I shut the cargo bay door Sasha locked the door all we could do was arm ourselves and wait for the monster to break out of the cargo bay.

Alien

By Lewis

Some thing was approaching. A low growl was louder every time I moved a muscle. I heard my heart pound every second.

I saw a 12 foot thing in the mist. I drew my plasma rifle shaking as I lifted it up. When I shot it the thing was still there snarling at me. I smelt the smell of the burning armour in the air.

Then a gigantic green plasma shot came from it cannon that it fired and it hit my partner and when I looked again he was dust.

Are flight to metropolis was Turing into a big disaster.

A bloody battle followed. We fired at its skin that was in a gap of the armour and we killed it. Exhausted, demolished, we staggered back to the space ship.

I crawled back to the ship, thinking about Ivan and the alien,

We had won and lost a friend. Then I heard the door open eve came in from the medic room, Then we heard a cracking of a egg into pices we looked round and saw it and inside was a horrible looking alien staring at me, and then it lunged at the pipes and ran up it. Me and eve gasped in fear.

Me and eve were frightened through are skins we dint know what to do.

I got my weapons and went up the pipes and saw the alien putting blood in the controls system and then it saw me a gooey battle followed. The thing attacked me with its sharp teeth, I fired back at the thing but I missed it. The thing attacked again so I threw a grenade at it and stuck to the alien and he was blown to bits and I was pushed by the force and went flying back to the bottom with the alien head then I smelt victory.

                                 Alien

                                 By Beth

Something was approaching. I heard a mumble in the distance. Footsteps thudded on the ground. I twisted and looked in to the distant mist. A shadowed creature moved as fast as my heart beat. I drew my Tommy gun in shock. Scarlet beams hissed through the air, a loud high pitched scream muttered in the darkness. I could smell roasting flesh as smoke gathered in the thin air. But it wasn’t dead. Vlad’s eyes began to widen as a terrifying crunch startled me .Boiling acid spilled down his skeleton. Our expedition to Killis was turning into a disaster.

A devastating battle followed.. I shot at it again but our shots were useless. Suddenly Drake pulled out a sliver, shining, dagger which spun in the cast moonlight. Green acid fired out of it’s pear-shaped head, while it’s flowing heart stopped pounding. Exhausted, demoralized, we staggered back to the shuttle. I felt relived.

I stepped on to the mother ship. I was nearly demolished. My heart felt like it would leap out of my ribs. I set the steal controls. Suddenly I heard a scuttle across the ship. I adventured down in to the pipes. It stunk.. It smelt a bit like rotten, mouldy cheese. I saw something in the mist. I was not sure what it was. It was a oval shaped egg the size of my head, it was a blue scarlet colour with a smooth texture. At the top it had a tiny crack. I stood back for a minute. Quickly and quietly a aluminous creature appeared out of the mist. It had vertical spikes along the side of it’s mouldy, slimy body. It’s skin moved in the twinkling light.   It was a meter long, jsu a small thing but incredibly powerful – yet for me to find out. I touched its bumpy skin, two big fangs came out of nowhere. A venomous poison shot under my shield. Luckily I had my armour on. Quickly IU drew my gun, so did Drake. Drake had a plasma lazer. I shot and I shot but my shots were useless. I was out of ammo. Quickly Drake zapped and zapped with his lazer. These shots were useless as well because this was no ordinary alien. It was one of the most rarest alien of them all. The Isaacar alien. Only the power of a triple lazer plasma gun would kill this deadly beast. Quickly Drake reconnected the wires. Suddenly a large crash came from next to me. Drake must have killed the alien. I knew this for sure because I could smell the foul smell of victory.

Dead Of Night

                               By Victoria

I thought it would idea taking the shortcut but it wasn’t.  I looked at my watch it was 4. 30 and I was near to St Mary’s church. I could see the wind swirling round gravestones like ribbons and rain was coming down fast. I zipped up my big winter coat and stuck my hands in my pockets.

I walked a bit further then took my hands out of my pockets and was just about to jump over the gate when I stopped and decided to flip up my mobile the display said 6.00 o’clock.

I jumped over the gate the old gravel crunched under my feet as I landed. I looked forward to sitting by the fire in my new slippers and drinking a big mug of hot chocolate. I could hear something   but I did not know what it was.

It was coming from underneath me. I froze.

I dared not to move in case something happened. I did not know what to do.

Then I heard the noise again it was getting stronger. I heard wood breaking. It was getting more powerful. The soil was moving.

Even as I watched a finger appeared

Blackened, broken finger nail, bones showing more appeared a whole hand.

The Alien

Chapter 2

by Adam

Filled with mixed emotions, Will and I started the count down and left the planet. I called to Will but he didn’t respond. I looked back. Will was staring at a rugged, Vermillion egg. It was the size of an ostrich egg. There was a crack that sent an eary echo around the shuttle. Will and I shuddered with shock. Then the chick broke out. I ran for my life, I tried to contact the Mother ship but there was no response. We thought we had it trapped…. But did we. We heard a clank, the Alien wasn’t trapped, it had escaped into the tangle of pipes. I headed for the pipes.

I pulled out my pistol and got ready for battle. We crept and crawled through the tangled pipes, hoping I would find the alien. I heard a growl and then a scream, was Will dead. I scrambled to where I thought the noise came from. Will had dropped dead and I was the only man left standing.

The alien whipped his razor tail towards me. Instead of cutting me it missed me and cut the pipe. It fell down into the engine room. I crawled down towards the alien. It was running towards the Exhaust pipe. What was it doing.  There was a sudden Boooooommm! As the alien exploded  in the exhaust. I was safe. I ran back  to the command room to contact the Mother ship. I was nearly back at the ship and I was safe. Will and Mark were dead but I was alive.

Chapter 2

As we entered the shuttle, we heard something nearby scuttling around in the pipes. Evie and I looked at each other in fear. “What are we going to do?” said Evie.

“I don’t know” I said. We will have to go in and see what’s there.

So Evie and I climbed the ladder and up to the pipes. But that’s when we both saw a shadow. It looked like the beast we killed earlier. We were both brave enough to go in; well we had to go in to save our space shuttle. Evie and I both silently crawled along the pipes.

I grabbed my blow pipe, loaded it with frog poison and got ready to shoot. Evie sat behind me with a nervous look on her face. She had found some alien egg pieces .we both just carried on crawling down the pipe until we saw a ruby red alien with crimson feet sat there. There was goo everywhere that the alien had been staggering along.

Evie got the blow pipe and aimed it at the alien. It was paralised with shock. The ugly beast made a guttural sound as it crashed down to the bottom of the pipe. “Yes!” we both shouted “, we have done it! Now let’s head home for a cup of tea”.

Chapter 2

By Henry

Still shivering from the battle with the alien and the loss of our comrade, we staggered back to the shuttle. As the shuttle’s rockets blasted us into space, I heard a cracking sound like breaking plastic. I thought it was just my ears popping but I went to investigate. I found what looked like a broken egg in the engine room but it had pulsating veins on it.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a six-legged figure dash into the control room. I ran through to find a miniature alien devouring Helen’s body. I picked my Neutrino from its holster and fired but the creature dashed into the engine’s pipes. I took a venom droid from the weapons case and crawled into the labyrinth of pipes.

Claws scrabbled on the pipe above. I pulled the pin out of the droid. It started to hum and set off to find the alien. I followed the droid through the pipes with a sonic rod in case the droid failed. Then a smell filled the pipes, a putrid stench so vile I would have fainted if not for my helmet’s air control.

The creature dropped from the roof of the pipe and attacked me. Within seconds, it fell limp and lifeless with the venom droid stuck to its back. I found my way to the control room and contacted the Master Ship. “Sergeant Smith reporting two dead troopers. Will report back to Master Ship in T-10 minutes”.

Alien

Chapter 2

By Robbie

Hearts heavy, we buried Adam at the place where he died. Slowly, we staggered back to the space shuttle only to find a huge, strange egg in the store room. I gently tapped the egg. It was as hard as stone.

I told Laura to keep on checking it every now and then. We set the shuttle to go back to the mothership. After about a quarter of an hour, I heard a bang in the pipes. There it was again. I told Laura to go and check on the egg. Suddenly, I heard a blood-curdling shriek. I quickly pressed ‘auto-pilot’ on the control board. I then ran to the egg. Laura lay dead on the floor. Like Adam, she was lying in a pool of blood.

I realised that the egg looked as if it had hatched. Now I knew what the banging in the pipes was. It was obvious. It was another alien. I knew that one of the vents had an electric spike in-coming from the battery. If I could just get the alien to touch it…

Quickly, I climbed into the pipe with the spike. Unfortunately, it had a deadly gas going through it. I banged on the side of the pipe to attract the alien. I hoped it would come before I suffocated. I fell unconscious. I think the alien hit the spike and died. I remember hearing a screech. But now that I am dying, I will never know…

Chapter 2

Sad and gloomy, we clobbered back carrying Mabel in a bucket. When we went back to the space ship we heard a cracking sound. “Susie I hope it is not another alien”, I said. “Oh no”, said Susie. “I think it is”, I said. “I will just go into the control room to check the space ship”, I said. But in the control room, I found a sapphire egg with emerald spots that had cracked open. There was nothing inside. I saw a trail of blood along the floor, leading to the pipes. I crept along the pipes, I saw another trail of blood. I went a bit further, I saw it a jade and aquamarine thing with sharp teeth and claws. I moved back round a corner, pulled back out my blow dart, went round the corner and fired. It fell down dead. I went back to Susie and we chucked it out. Three cheers for us!

Chapter Two

We entered the hot, stuffy shuttle and laid Ben on one of the sleeping pods. Mixed emotions surged through me.  Feeling sick with remorse. I could have saved Ben but I hadn’t wanted to. I didn’t want to be a hero, I was too scared.  I started the engine. Twenty minutes later I was staring out into the inky black gloom. That was when it began…

There was a rattle from above. We climbed the metal stairs and entered the sleeping pods, where we found the remains of an egg. It was mottled grey, with a rough, dry texture. Andrea and I looked up to see a pair of piercing, jade green eyes staring down at us. Andrea grabbed her gun then mine. “Andrea, wait,” I cried. I wasn’t about to lose another member of my team. “I’m sorry,” she said softly. Pulling back her chocolate brown hair, she entered the air pipes. There was the sound of Andrea’s belt scraping against the lining of the pipes.  That was the last time I saw her. Then there was a scream. I forced myself into action. Grabbing the medical kit, I opened the sedative box. I loaded the dart then set off up the pipes. It seemed like I’d been crawling for ages when I saw a pool of ruby red blood.

It was Andrea. She lay limp and lifeless but still as beautiful as ever. Her hand was cold and covered in blood. Her mother’s ruby red ring glinted in the low light. I’d always liked Andrea better than Ben. Ben was always very uptight and private where as Andrea was always relaxed and smiley. I’ve been having nightmares about this moment, the moment when I returned to the mothership alone, with no Andrea or Ben, just me – Christopher Baker. Sensing footsteps above me. I climbed the ladder and took a deep breath. I blew out with all my might and the dart hit the creature on the shoulder. I pulled the grenade out of my belt. There was no point in living, if there was no Andrea to live with.

Chapter 2

By Amy

Sadness written all over her face, Ellie looked at me. We leapt on to the shuttle, slamming the door behind us. Ellie slipped the key into the ignition and turned it. We were off.

“What’s that?” Ellie asked.

“What?” I didn’t understand.

“That rattling?”

Then I heard it. A faint tap-tap. It came from the pipes above us.

As I climbed up the pipes, the noise got louder. I saw the remains of a mottled, silver and fuchsia egg. It was about the size of an emu egg. Suddenly, a great roar vibrated around the shuttle. I screamed and Ellie came crawling up the pipes towards me. I rummaged through my bag, looking for my blow dart.

By now we were in the engine room. The creature was in there too, a glowing, emerald green colour.

I turned away to load my blow dart. When I turned back, ready to fire, Ellie was lying there, still and lifeless, in a pool of scarlet blood.

I blew hard. The tranquillizer flew through the air and hit the alien on the shoulder. It gave an ear-piercing screech, swayed and fell, making the shuttle shake. Creating a laurel green fountain, acid spurted from its shoulder.

I glanced out of the window and saw the mother ship fast approaching. This was the moment I had been dreading, the time I had to tell everyone what had happened to Ellie and Katie……

There he was again.

He was following me. He was a fat man, his clothes were grey and wet. His trousers had raggy holes in. he took his hat off, his hair was like dried up leaves that were grey.

His face was scratched and beaten. It was dark so nobody could see it. His eyes were dark, he couldn’t see out of one eye. His teeth were rotten and black. When I saw him  my skin crawled like I could fall over. Somebody came up to talk to me. He tapped me on the back of the shoulder. He said “What are you doing?”. I saw him after the circus had finished, so I hid behind somebody so he couldn’t see me. I felt as if I was going to be sick when I saw his face. After a couple of days I couldn’t get his face out of my head it was as if I would drop dead. Somebody tried to speak to me but I was not listening. I was tearing through the mirror and I saw him behind me, but when I looked back he was not there. Then he was there again but he floated straight through the mirror. I ran, I didn’t have time to stay, I found out that he was a vampire. I went up to check. He said “I’ll get you”, then disappeared in the middle of nowhere. The room felt very cold, I shivered. Then he got a dagger. I shouted “Ah, ah, ah” then he raised the dagger at me. I ran away from him, then he disappeared the next. I never saw him again.

There he was again.

Was he following me? A mysterious man, tall but very skinny. His hair was like spikey pineapple leaves. His face shaded in the shadow of his hair. His eyes pitch black, his teeth yellow as a slice of cheese. Just looking at him my hair stood up on end.

Then suddenly my friend tapped me on the shoulder. “Come on we will go and see some clowns” as we were coming out my heart began to race. My friend said “come on it just old Bucktooth”. My body was shaking.

The last few days whenever I looked in the mirror there he was. I was terrified.

I saw him again in the telly, but the thing was the telly was not on. Suddenly he vanished. When I went to phone the police his voice appeared on the phone “Ah ar no you don’t”. then a misty white fog came in through the door. There he was stood there.

Then he tried to grab me. Then I lunged for him. He disappeared. I was really scared.

He attacked me again. He had me by the throat and then started to stangle me. When I started to choke he said to me “You dare tell anyone”. Just as he was vanishing BANG. A wooden stake was through his heart. There was a man stood at the door. He had a crossbow in his hand.

There he was again.

Was he following me? He was really skinny. His head drooped like a world. He had a big black cloak. His hear was like snakes and spaghetti. His face was as white as snow and black under his eyes. His teeth were as yellow as the mouldiest banana with black marks. His nose was very straight. When I saw him my face was white because I was that scared. Just then a policeman came and tapped me on my shoulder “watch out kid. There’s a murdered about.” as I was leaving I saw him again. He came past me and ran his finger over my face. I felt like a dagger had stabbed me in the heart. I could not get him out of my head, that first two days every time I was not thinking. A week had gone by. I was just starting to get better. I was looking in my bathroom window and he suddenly appeared out from behind me in the mirror. “Hello sweetheart” he said “time for tea.” It felt like leaches were on me. I turned around and there he was. He had dagger teeth. I ran out of the room. He said “I told you it was dinner time.” I ran off screaming. He picked me up by my neck and he said “I told you it was dinner time.” I screamed so loud that he dropped me. I kicked him on the leg. He suddenly disappeared. I ran for the door but he appeared there “Oh my gosh!” I whispered. I knew this was a good time to run upstairs and jump out of the window. I ran upstairs and jumped out of the window, but there he was. He said “There’s no way you are going anywhere.” I said “can I just go and see my mum for the last time”. “Oh no I have been done with that trick loads of times” he said. He picked me up by my feet and took a bite. It felt like a needle digging into me.

The vampire circus

There he was again.

Was he following me? He was tall and chubby. He had a long black cloak. His hair was black with one hair sticking up on the top of his head. His face looked like grandma’s, all shrivelled up with bright red lipstick, his face was white. His eyes were red. His face was as greeny yellow as mouldy cheese. It made me feel scared. I had goose bumps the size of oranges and most of all I wanted to get a tooth brush. Suddenly my mum came and asked me if I’d like to go to the circus. I saw him again there at the circus. He ran his cold finger down my neck. It made my blood go cold. It felt like a sword went through my neck. For the next few days I couldn’t forget him, his cloak I couldn’t stand it. Everywhere I went he was there down the loo, in the sink, on the TV. He was saying “Hello deary”. He took  a step out of the TV. He came closer and closer. I noticed two fangs a pointy nose and giant feet, that looked familiar. He’s he’s he’s a VAMPIRE! He came to bite me. He had steam underneath him. I ran for my life! He disappeared he appeared again. He opened his mouth ready to bite me but… the door opened and… it was my mum. She ripped off her clothes, vampire and me looked away in horror. I looked back and she was in a wonder woman costume. The vampires teeth were on my neck. Suddenly my mum kicked him. He screamed I hid. He put his teeth on my neck. Mum kicked again. His teeth dug into my neck. I collapsed and died and my life flashed by. My mum and dad will be standing at my grave.

Vampire circus

By Adam

There he was again. A thin shadowy figure with a black greasy army style jacket and an old tatty flat cap with a large brim casting his face in shadow, his black oily long hair could be seen dangly down from his hat. He had yellow teeth and some were missing. My heartbeat got faster as he stared at me from the shadows across the road that’s when dad tapped me on the shoulder.

“Hurry up Adam let’s get inside before the queue gets bigger!” he said.

As we came out of the performance the creepy guy with the weird grin flared me a smile and pointed at me with his bony fingers; a shiver ran down my back for the second time that night.

Over the next few days I couldn’t get the image of him out of my head every time I closed my eyes.

On Thursday while mum and dad were at parents evening I happened to stare out the window and there he was standing in the fields behind the house silhouetted in front of the moon light , his jacket fluttered in the icing air.

Suddenly started running towards me getting faster and faster then started to float up to my window. As he raised level with my face, the wind blew his cap off to reveal the horror beneath….. his eyes are as red as blood, his teeth were as sharp as pairing knives and streaked with dripping blood, running down his white bony chin. I screamed in terror really really loud, but other wise speechless, my mouth in the shape of a scream but nothing came out.

The lights suddenly went out and he appeared first on the TV screen, then on dads lap top screen. I wanted to call mum and dad as I did he floated down the chimney. Standing at the bottom of the stairs the temperature suddenly dropped below freezing and blood started running down the hall walls around him. I couldn’t move a muscle, I was terrified. He just stood there looking at me, baring his blood splattered teeth.

He floated silently up the stairs towards me I couldn’t move. His bony fingers grabbed the hair on top of my head and he lifted me up closer to his face until his mouth was level to my neck. I could feel his hot smelly breath HE WAS GOING TO BITE!!!

He was about to feed when suddenly he froze and we booth dropt to the floor. An arrow was sticking out of his cheats.

He was dead I look up and saw him, the slayer, a man in a long leather jacket holding a crossbow with long spiky red hair with darkish skin and green eyes.

The man said “my name is Joe, we need to take out the vampire scum,” I was frozen solid.

We ran to the cave where   ……………………….. he said it was dark and slimy, I was so scared, I could not move there were coffins everywhere. But where were the vampire? I t smelt of rotten flesh. I said” I want to go home.” “No time,” he said and then hundreds of vampires were floating towards us. He gave me a baseball bat ….. I said. Joe was killing them with his crossbow under my breath I said, “I wish I could be like him.” There was only one vampire left, there was blood every where, no! He killed Joe I took his cross bow and fired it at him his head was hanging off I used his head as a football, I scored a goal yeh! I then looked at Joe,

I will revenge his death I am the new slayer!!

Vampire circus

He was following me. He was tall with a big black coat that was ripped with a big hat that covered his face so that no one could see him. He had little bits of long greasy hair hanging down around his face. You could hardly see his face because of the hat. The only thing you could see were the tips of his teeth hanging down. He had long, pointy yellow finger nails.

Seeing him made my heart beat faster and sweat ran down my face. That’s when Tom tapped me on the shoulder and said “come on lets go in and see the circus”.

As we were leaving, I saw him again and he stuck his finger out and pointed at Tom and then me. He then ran his finger across his throat. For the second time my heart pounded with fear.

At night when I close the curtains in my bedroom I see his face at the window, a constant reminder of what he looks like. I cannot get his face out of my mind.

On Saturday. Mum and dad went to pick up my brother and I was home alone. I was looking out of the sitting room window and I saw him again, a shadow next to the swing in the garden. He stood still. Because it was windy his coat flew up behind him. I could see a sharp silver thing in his hand. His coat flew up in the wind, like a bat hovering  towards me. He came closer and closer until his face was right up against the window. He took of his hat and threw it on the floor. He had metal things on his head to hold his hair on. His eyes were red like fire. He had two huge fangs. He ran his pointy yellow finger nails down the window and it squealed. I was terrified and scared. I stood still with fear.

I rang my mum and shouted “Come home quick2. Then I got a text saying I WILL KILL YOU! The fire went out and the room felt very cold. He lifted me up with his eyes. I felt as I was choking, but he didn’t touch me with his hands. Then he leaned closer, his fangs preparing to feed … on blood! Suddenly he dropped to the floor and he had an arrow through his heart.

I looked up and I saw a person wearing a brown hat and suit. His bow and arrow still drawn. He was a good person but I didn’t know who he was. He said his name, he was called Joe. He told me the man had just killed was a vampire. Hearing this made me shake with fear. “Quickly lets put him in a bag and move him” I said. “Yes we can take him to my lab, follow me.” I followed him outside and he lifted a paving flag and that’s when I saw the tunnel leading to his underground lab. Inside the lab it smelt of garlic. It was quite hot and I felt quite scared. There was a wall full of daggers and lots of coffins were in the room. I could see a locker that had boxes and boxes of garlic in it. Next we heard a whistling noise. It sounded like a bird. Joe said “Quickly get a dagger off the wall”. I saw the coffins begin to open. Fingers sliding the coffin lids off. The vampires climb out slowly and stand in front of us. Count Dracula walks towards me. I am shaking with fear. He grabs me by the front of my jumper and lifts me up. I hear Joe shout “Stab him with the dagger” Count Dracula let me go and he drops to the floor, blood oozing from his heart. All the other vampires die too. Joe and I put them all back in their coffins and fastened the lids down. We were both very happy because we had beaten them all.

Was he following me? He was tall and skinny, a greasy black coat reached his knees, and he wore a fedora hat that flopped down over his face. His hair was almost like snakes crawling over his face, covering his ears. His face was unrecognisable because of his hat shading his face, his teeth were brown like bark off a tree, and his eyes were bloodshot and menacing.

Just to look at him was like an adventurous journey of fear creeping over me; his stare froze me to the spot. That’s when mum tapped me on the shoulder.

“Come on we’re going to be late,” she said. As we were leaving I glanced over my shoulder, there he was his lips peeled back over his teeth and he threw a menacing smile at me. Some how I knew that we were going to meet again in the future.

For the second time my heart skipped a beat but it felt like a million.

Day after day I think about his face, drifting after me down corridors, up alley ways, even in my dreams. /

On Tuesday I was home alone, Mum and dad had gone out for their anniversary. I stared out of the window and there he was again, a tall dark silhouette as tall as the heavens, he stood there with his coat billowing out behind him in the wind.

A silvery light glinted in the darkness in his hand, it made me go into a cold sweat. Then he disappeared, the glinting light still floating towards me, and then he reappeared as a flash in front of me.

To my horror he peeled back his skin to reveal a hideous, blood curdling face with sharp fangs, blood was dripping from his chin as he scrapped his long scrawny fingernails down the window pane. I was frozen to the spot, his eyes full of hunger.

I crawled backwards, everything went cold, and I turned around only to see his face appear on the TV. I hastily drew out my mobile phone and dialled the number of my parents. “Oh no you don’t they can’t hear you,” he whispered. I ran towards the bathroom and locked the door, but I soon regretted my actions. The window began to crack as the temperature dropped, it smashed into a million pieces and he floated into the room.

“Take my hand,” he growled. Something was happening to me he was taking over my body as I reached towards his hand he grabbed my wrist and drew me towards him.

I urged to shout for help but something was stopping me. He contracted his fangs ready to bite, I could feel his breath on my neck, rasping heavily. Then he fell his neck bleeding rapidly, he had a dagger in his neck with purple liquid on it, it was his blood, he was dead.

There she was she had long ginger hair, tied up in a ponytail

“Hi” she said “few, right then come on, we’ve got the whole world to save.

“A WHOLE WORLD” I exclaimed

“Oh and I forgot to mention, my name is Mandy. Come on” she shouted as she flicked her hair out of her face.

I panicked and followed her out of the church, down the path and onto her means of transport, a horse it had a black mane and tail with a black body, it was basically all black. Suddenly her voice broke the silence,

“This here is midnight, she is my horse and in all my missions she has played an important part”

“Let’s go then” I screamed.

So we mounted Midnight, galloped down the road and without warning, flew off into the night. Midnight stopped flying and lowered to the ground, Mandy stood in front of a massive boulder and said

“Haunting’s of the dead we have come to seek our Victory”

The boulder moved aside and crunched in to the wall, we walked into the cave and the boulder crashed shut behinds us

“This is spooky” Mandy said

The walls were oozing with goo and blood. There in front of us were hundreds of coffins. Lying there waiting to be opened, all of a sudden there were vampires all around us.

“This is it” Mandy whispered in my ear

The Vampires struck, flying at us just as I thought I was going to die Mandy handed ma a Magical Sword. I slashed all around my and saw an arm fell to my side the body it came from howled in agony and fell to rest with it’s severed arm.

Was he following me? The wolf like man in a long black coat and a battered

hat and his horrible long greasy hair. I couldn’t see his face because his hat shaded it.  His lips were as thin as a pin.  I was getting spooked by the look of him.  My mum tapped me on the shoulder “You wanted to come to the circus”.  As we were leaving he smiled at me but it wasn’t a happy smile.  For the second time I felt really cold and spooked.

Every time I closed my eyes he was there.  When I had a dream, he was in it.  I got really scared, I wondered if I would see him again and what he would do to me.

On Thursday, Mum and Dad had gone out to do the shopping.  I was hoping they would get back soon when I saw a shadow, there he was again.  He was as still as a statue, only his head moved.  He looked at me, I was terrified.  He started to walk towards me.  I closed my eyes, hoping I was dreaming.  I opened my eyes; there he was outside my window.  He took his hat off and then I saw his dark eyes.  His skin was as white as clouds then he opened his mouth, he had fangs.  Then I realised he was a vampire!

I took my phone out of my pocket.  I heard a voice.  “You can’t get away now”.  Suddenly a thick, grey mist seeped under the door.  There he was in front of me.  He pointed at the candle, the flame was flickering.  He pointed at it again, the flame went out.

Suddenly I realised my feet weren’t touching the carpet.  I was coming face to face with him.  He looked ready to bite me then the door opened with a loud bang.  He dropped me to the floor.  A girl with a wooden stake in her hand stood in the doorway.  She stabbed the stake into the vampire’s back, who fell to the floor with a heavy thud.  I looked up.  She was wearing a long coat with wooden stakes in her pockets and garlic around her neck.  She had a wooden cross, hanging on a string around her neck.  She was a slayer.  “Come on” she said as she grabbed my arm and pulled me out the door.  “Where are we going?” I asked as I ran along with her.  “To slay some vampires of course, that’s my job” she replied.  “What’s your name?” I asked.  “I’m Tara Van Helsing.”

We stood outside a big, dark castle.  We entered the castle.  I looked around, holding onto the back of her coat.  There were skeletons and sticky cobwebs and coffins everywhere.  Now I was getting really terrified.  She whispered to me “Eat the garlic I’ve given you.”  I did as I was told.  Suddenly candles lit the castle, vampires came out of their coffins and the fight began.  One of the vampires bit me, it fell to the floor.  I realised I had garlic running through my blood.  After half an hour, all the vampires were lying on the floor.

I went back to the house; my Mum and Dad were home.  They saw my scars.  I said I had fallen on some nails and today I still have the scars.  I have written a book about what happened, but nobody believes that it’s true or do they?

 Vampire Circus by Mollie

Was he following me? He was a tall thin man in a long grey coat and a black felt hat, his hair was brown and greasy, sticking out from under his hat. His face was hidden in shadow, I couldn’t see his eyes. He had scars on his hands and yellow teeth, you could only just see his nose but even that was crooked. Seeing that face, made shivers go down my spine. That’s when my mum tapped me on the shoulder, “Come on, were going in now.” She said.

As we were leaving, he smirked at me. Foe the second time fear ran over my body, my heart throbbed manically. I couldn’t get his face out of my head for the next few days, he floated through my night mares and my dreams, I woke up in a sweat every morning, I said to my Mum that I was just ill.  She didn’t believe me.

On Tuesday Mum and dad were out a parents evening. I was in the living room, suddenly I saw him. He was on the hill across the road in the park, he seemed to be looking at me. He had the same clothes on, the same felt hat. He was just stood there, still as a statue. The wind blowing his coat out at the back.    I saw something glitter in his hands, a knife! He just stayed there, the  rain started pouring but he just stood there. To my horror he started to float towards me I couldn’t see his feet moving, he was just hovering. Closer and closer he got until he walked across the road, now he was outside the house, that’s when he took his hat off. I gasped in horror, he had veins all around his face, pointed fangs, dripping with blood, a crooked nose. He ran his fingers down the window making a screeching noise, I stepped back, I swallowed my heart. He was a vampire.

Suddenly the TV switched on, I jumped, there he was, on the TV, there was noise behind me, I turned around, he was staring at me on the computer screen.

“Hello child,” he said spookily. I tried to phone Mum on my mobile but as I put it to my ear his voice came out saying.

“I’m home” scarily. Mist came out from under the door, bats came flying out over the fire place making me jump, spiders came crawling across the floor. I looked up there he was. Stood there, so still. A voice message came from my phone, it was Mum.

“I’m afraid we’re   having to stay for a bit longer honey, we’ll be back soon though, bye.” I just stood there, he poked his bony fingers on my throat, gripping my neck tightly. He lifted me up, I was about to scream, but nobody could hear me. He leaned closer, his fangs getting ready to feed …………. ON BLOOD!

As he was about to bite he froze, his mouth still open, he fell to the floor. There was a dagger in his back. The dagger was shining in then light, I looked up, there she was, a woman in black, stake in her hand, garlic round her neck. Jet black hair swayed down beneath her waist. She was tall, thin and pretty. Pale white skin and red lips.

I looked at her, she looked at me, we just stood there. Finally she spoke “hey kido!” she said.

“Urmm hi,” I said, I didn’t know what to say.

“I’m Amanda Vanhelsing”

“I’m Ruby Smith,” I replied.

“I have come to help you, come on, we don’t have much time!” We ran out of the door.

As we ran she told me, “we’re going to flay all the vampires we can.” She said.

“What do you mean?” I asked, but we didn’t get to finish the conversation because all of a sudden we rushed down under ground, my heart came up through my throat.

It was damp under ground, you could hear moaning it smelt of musty stone.  We walked through the grey old corridors, to my right and left all I could see was dozens of coffins, all lined up in rows. Suddenly I heard a wolf howling. It was a full moon.

“Oh no!” exclaimed Amanda. “ this is the wrong place!”

“ What do you mean, the wrong place?” I asked, “we were meant to go to the circus to find out where he came from but we’ve come to the old  cemetery instead, and if there is a full moon, well, nobody knows.” Suddenly a white hand broke through the wooden coffin, I screamed, more and more lids slid off the coffins, bodies came out dressed in black capes, she handed me a wooden cross and draped it round my neck, then she handed me a sword. The first vampire approached, she stuck the sword into his throat, I gasped. Suddenly we were surrounded, I took my sword out and the fight began. We’d nearly got them all, the lazy one fell to the ground, I grinned!

Two weeks later. I never talk about it any more, I see Amanda some times in the grave yard. She has become a great friend of mine. I never thought  I’d do, anything like that before, it was so exciting!

I saw him after the circus had finished, so I hid behind somebody so he couldn’t see me. I felt as if I was going to be sick when I saw his face.

A wooden steak was through his heart. There was a man stood at the door. He had a crossbow in his hand.

Vampire circus
