Nicola Smith, deputy manager of St Thomas Methodist Pre-school, has set up the petition in the wake of threats to the library off Cowick Street.
She said: “We take the children down to the library every half term to browse the books and have stories read to them. It would be a terrible shame for the opportunity to be taken away from the children.
“I have set up an online petition against the closure of the library on www.ipetitions.com/petition/ savestthomaslibrary/
CPG Investors intends to reconfigure entrances to the site as well as parking arrangements and has said turning the library into a shop would recoup some of the expense. Devon County Council’s lease on the building is due to run out in March 2011.

My Dad who is in his 90’s use this library frequently. He does not wish to trail to the big city library. The staff are very frienly and helpful. He also finds a good selection of books. Do hope you are successful with the petition, Kingskerswell fought for their library and it has been kept open.
