I have just had a letter from a librarian who has had her budget cut dramatically. When she joined the school six years ago her budgets varied between £2-£6K. Now her standard budget is around the £500 mark, and she is expected to bid for other sources, development funds, local charity funds etc. With luck, these will increase the budget to about £2K.
As yet, few schools are closing their libraries but many are putting pressure on book budgets and space.
