I have just got home from an excellent day at Bebington Library, their first Bebington Youth Bookfest.
I have to confess that I thought the library was being optimistic, staging three ninety minute author sessions in a day, but young people turned up for all three sessions to hear me give a talk then take part in a writing workshop. Many of the parents stayed to take part.
The children were well-behaved, intelligent and enthusiastic. They were a tribute to their parents and teachers. It shows what can be done and why we still need public libraries rooted in our communities.
Tomorrow, the wonderful Cathy Cassidy is running the second author day in the Bookfest.
