New novel entitled Hate Crime at final draft stage

My next novel, Hate Crime, will be published in March, 2014. Inspired by the real-life murder of Sophie Lancaster, the novel reimagines her life and its aftermath, exploring various aspects of prejudice.

I met Sophie’s mother, Sylvia, at a National Union of Teachers conference at which we were both speaking. I was shocked by the details of Sophie’s murder. The attack was totally unprovoked. Details are here:

Poet Simon Armitage had already penned a highly successful play, Black Roses. I wanted to take a different approach, imagining the impact of the murdered girl’s death on her family and witnesses of the attack. I am about to undertake the final draft. I hope my novel does justice to Sophie’s memory.

My current novel is Raining Fire.

Unknown

It is a fast-paced and tense real life thriller about gun crime in an inner city gangland, by prize-winning author, Alan Gibbons.

Alex and Ethan are brothers, growing up on an estate where there are just two choices: sport or crime.

Ethan is a promising footballer, and when he is selected to go on a training programme in the US, he feels sure that he has found his chance to escape the gangs that dominate his streets.

But as life spirals out of control for his brother, Alex, and things unexpectedly take a turn for the worse for Ethan, he finds himself drawn into the midst of an explosive feud with the gun at its heart.

”The gun can make a weak man strong. The gun is the coward’s fist. The gun is power.”

In this tense, gripping and absorbing real life thriller, Alan Gibbons explores the complex issue of gun crime, and the far-reaching consequences it can have.

What a kerfuffle!

I was astonished to read an anonymous attack on my novel The Edge on the political website Conservative Home.

The article is here:

My reply, published later on the same website, is here:
